Chinese company OnePlus appears first out the gate when it comes to 2023’s flagship smartphone race.

Unveiled in China this week ahead of a global launch next month, the OnePlus 11 is looking to continue the path forged by the company’s 9 and 10 series phones.

Which is to say: put lots of camera tech in there.

The new circular design for the Hasselblad-branded rear-facing camera is, according to OnePlus, ‘inspired by black holes’.

Inside the black hole are a 50-megapixel main camera accompanied by a 48-megapixel ultrawide secondary shooter and, finally, a 32-megapixel portrait sensor for those bokeh-style shots.

In slightly vague marketing speak, OnePlus says there’s a ’13-channel multi-spectral light-colour identifying sensor,’ on the back of the phone which can handle ‘all photography scenarios.’

The rest of the phone’s specs round out to what you’d expect from 2023’s first big-budget offering: there’s the latest processor from Qualcomm (a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2) along with 16GB of RAM and a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged up to a maximum of 100W.

‘The fast and smooth performance is in OnePlus’ DNA,’ said Louis Li, President of OnePlus China, ‘The OnePlus 11 5G continues to be the pioneer in terms of smartphone performance.’

This is, as you’d expect, another big phone. The OLED screen measures in at 6.7-inches on the diagonal and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. Alongside the phone, OnePlus also annunced a new set of wireless earbuds: the OnePlus Buds Pro 2.

Although OnePlus is launching it in China on 9th January, anyone in the UK who fancies upgrading will need to wait until the global launch on 7th February. Pricing has yet to be announced, but gadget fans will surely be hoping OnePlus can undercut chief rival Samsung which is also likely to drop a new flagship phone in the coming months.
