Ola electric scooter survives the water test again, but try it at your own risk


Earlier this month, a video of an Ola electric scooter went viral on the internet, in which a man can be seen fully submerging the scooter in water. In the video, the Ola S1 Pro emerges unscathed even after being submerged in salt water—an unthinkable feat for any ICE two wheeler.

Now another video has surfaced on social media in which two people can be seen riding an Ola two-wheeler in a waterlogged street in Bengaluru. The scooter managed to take two of its passengers through the knee deep water safely.

A Twitter user, HS Shekhawat, shared the video on Twitter, saying: “It’s happens only in Ola..When Mercedes ?? stops but Ola ?? keep going.”

However, many pointed out that most EVs can also do this since they do not have exhaust pipes and are usually water proof.

“It happens with most if not all EVs, as they don’t have exhaust pipes and are usually IP68. Unlike what many PPL think it’s the ICE vehicles that are endangered in waterlogged areas because of their engines and the exhaust pipe,” said one Saikat Bhowmik.

However, others pointed out that doing so, on an EV or otherwise, can be dangerous as the vehicle can get stuck or damaged if it falls into a pothole or open manhole.

In May this year, a 23-year-old woman died after her car got stuck in a flooded underpass in Bengaluru.

Notably, Ola had faced severe criticism earlier on quality issues.

The company had announced a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles in April last year following a fire incident the previous month. Ola has also had to issue statements over several accidents, including the breaking of the front fork arm in the past.

The EV maker is set to start deliveries of its S1 Air next month.

Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has also teased a new scooter. The company is likely to reveal more about the new scooter in July.
