No. 32 Clemson Falls to No. 22 Georgia Tech – Clemson Tigers … – Clemson Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 32 Clemson women’s tennis team (15-9, 3-8 ACC) dropped a close battle to No. 22 Georgia Tech on Saturday at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility by a score of 5-2. The Tigers needed to take multiple third sets in order to win the match and couldn’t quite do so to complete the upset.

Clemson came out strong to start the day, as the doubles pair of Eleni Louka and Sophia Hatton took down the No. 69 tandem in the country, 6-3. Dani Medvedeva and Cristina Mayorova earned Clemson the doubles point with a 7-5 win over the No. 63 tandem, and Jenna Thompson and Leigh Van Zyl earned a 7-6 (7-5) win to close out the doubles sweep.

Alexandra Anttila kept the ball rolling in singles, earning a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory to advance to 6-0 on the season. Georgia Tech won the next three matches to take a 3-2 lead, leaving the game up to Louka’s and Hatton’s third sets.

Hatton, who had battled to earn the third set, took a 4-2 advantage but could not withstand the late push from her opponent as Georgia Tech claimed Court 5 and earned the final point needed to clinch the match.

Louka, taking on the No. 11 ranked opponent in the nation in Carol Lee, managed to bring her third set to 6-6. However, it was Lee who ultimately came out on top of the tiebreak, taking the match 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6).

The Tigers will return to action on Friday, Apr. 14 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility when they take on No. 14 Miami at 3 p.m.
