NITI Aayog meet: PM Modi calls for preparing an investor friendly charter; rank states on the index



Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a nationwide investor friendly charter and an index, to be prepared by the NITI Aayog, to rank states on their ability to attract investments.Besides, the PM endorsed the idea of zero poverty at the village level while hailing the suggestions on a Skill Census and linking of rivers within states and between states.

PM Modi, on Saturday, chaired the 9th governing council meeting of NITI Aayog with focus on Viksit Bharat and Ease of Living.

26 chief ministers and lieutenant governors of union territories attended the meeting while chief ministers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Puducherry stayed away from the meeting with most of them boycotting the meeting.

Briefing the media after a day long meeting, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said the PM also requested states to develop their own vision plans to align with the vison for a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

According to Subrahmanyam, PM also urged states to strengthen districts and make them the drivers of growth while raising the issue of threat posed by cyber security, saying states are more vulnerable to cyber security issues.Another important issue raised by some states was demographic management, Subrahmanyam said.”There are two aspects of managing our demography. One is looking after our ageing population and the other is to manage the population growth,” he said.

The government is of the view that India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy with GDP crossing $5 trillion and aspires to be a $30 trillion economy by 2047.

Achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 will require a collaborative approach between the Centre and State governments, it said.

Besides, the council deliberated on key areas including drinking water, electricity, health, schooling and land and property with an aim to improve the ease of living.

The Aayog is awaiting the response of states on the approach paper for a Viksit Bharat and is expected to firm up the vision document for a Viksit Bharat by 2047 in one and a half month.
