By making use of various money-making techniques, one dad has managed to make over £1,000 which he can put towards getting the kids ready for the new school term.
Inflation continues to drive prices of key items up, with the latest Consumer Price Index increasing by 6.2 percent for children’s garments and 5.6 percent for stationary year-on-year, research from TopCashback revealed.
Adam Bullock, TopCashback’s UK director explained that there are some simple savvy changes parents can implement to save money and ease the pressure along the way.
He said: “This includes swotting up on the best deals and bulk buying where you can throughout the year – it’s much cheaper to stock up on stationery in bigger packs and there’s often multi-buy deals to make the most of too.”
David McMenemy has been a member with TopCashback for four years, and has saved over £1,750.
Most recently he used some of his cashback fund to buy back-to-school items for his daughter.
He said: “When the time comes for me to renew my phone contract, I always make sure to try and get cashback if I can. Previously I’ve received £130 for one contract alone.
“The extra cash has helped with the rising cost of living and I see it as an added bonus. It helps us to pay for any unexpected smaller purchases online.”
Mr McMenemy stated he would definitely recommend TopCashback to others as it’s “so easy”.
People can check if there’s cashback available when using a browser extension on their laptop as the deals automatically flash up on the websites they visit.
He concluded: “It’s always nice to get something back on a purchase – however big or small!”
Preparing to go back to school in September is an expensive time for families, especially after a costly six weeks’ of keeping the kids entertained in the summer holidays.
Money experts at TopCashback have predicted that it could cost as much as £150 to get the kids ready for the new school year.
They looked into the cost of getting all of the essential items, including new shirts, trousers, PE wear and stationery and found inflation was pushing these prices up.
Mr Bullock suggested parents try bulk buying as another way to try and save money.
He said: “You should try swotting up on the best deals and bulk buying where you can throughout the year – it’s much cheaper to stock up on stationery in bigger packs and there’s often multi-buy deals to make the most of too.
“This year there are also more school uniform exchange initiatives than ever, whether that’s via your child’s school or through large retailers, where you can pick up free items or donate some of your own.
“There’s also the option to make the most of things like cashback, whether that’s making savings on other items to spend during a time when it’s more expensive, like August, or, using deals to make savings on the back-to-school items themselves.”
