New seven-seat Volkswagen ID.Buzz spotted testing

This is our first look at the new Volkswagen ID.Buzz long-wheelbase model. Spied undergoing development, it’s designed to be an even more practical version of the all-electric MPV with seven seats instead of the usual five. The extra space will make the ID.Buzz more of a rival to the Citroen e-SpaceTourer, Peugeot e-Traveller and Vauxhall Vivaro Life Electric

We’ve seen a teaser of the seven-seat ID.Buzz before, in an investor presentation back in 2022 that revealed the interior layout. The standard format would be two seats in the front, three for the middle row and two in the back, but there will be the ability to move the seats around and even remove them to maximise loading space – just like with the new VW Multivan

Our spy images have caught the ID.Buzz in winter test conditions with fairly light camouflage, suggesting a full reveal is imminent. The exterior design is pretty much identical to the regular ID.Buzz’s, with the extra length coming in the wheelbase.

The ID.Buzz launched with an inaugural ‘1st Edition’ trim level (which has now gone off sale) and we expect the longer model to get the same treatment, with Life and Style trims arriving later. We also expect to see the same 10-inch Discover Pro infotainment system as the standard version. Equipment specifications will mimic those of the smaller model and the powertrain should remain the same too.

Despite extra room for a larger battery pack, we’re likely to see a capacity of 77kWh, sending 201bhp and 310Nm of torque to the rear wheels. With the extra mass, the ID.Buzz LWB will probably fall short of the regular model’s 258-mile maximum range.

It’s even more likely to cost more, too; the extra practicality of seven seats will mean a rise over the five-seater’s £58,915 starting price.
