New Samsung Galaxy S24 gets exclusive upgrade its Android rivals can't match

It’s been a massive week for Samsung with the technology giant finally releasing it’s much anticipated Galaxy S24 range of smartphones. These new devices come packed full of changes including a refreshed design, brighter screens and improvements to the rear camera. There are three models to choose from including a standard S24 and bigger S24+. However, if you want a phone that gets an exclusive upgrade you might want to pick the new Galaxy S24 Ultra.

This more premium device features the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that’s been boosted for Galaxy phones. The Gen 3, which was announced last year, is already pretty mighty but it’s now improved thanks to a partnership between Samsung and chipmaker Qualcomm.

In fact, the two firms are promising that owners of the S24 Utra will be treated to the ‘most advanced’ upgrade ever.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy looks set to boost numerous features such as the camera, gaming and connectivity.

Another bonus is better artificial intelligence. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is going to push the boundaries of AI – something the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is already built for – with this new device editing photos, translating calls and transcribing meetings without you touching a button.

Although other phones are getting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, they aren’t getting access to this exclusive “for Galaxy” version which could give Samsung the edge over its rivals.

So what about the standard S24 and S24+?

Sadly, this chip isn’t coming to those phones with Samsung splitting its processors this year. The S24 and S24+ will be powered by an Exynos chip instead so those wanting Snapdragon performance will need to spend a bit more to get the Ultra.

“We’re proud to continue working alongside Samsung to lead this new era for the mobile industry and provide consumers with extraordinary premium experiences,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handset, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

“Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy instills its advanced AI capabilities in the Galaxy S24 series, to enable new experiences with AI features to empower users’ everyday life. It also fuels advanced professional-quality camera, gaming experiences and ultra-fast connectivity including Wi-Fi 7, plus offers one of the most reliable authentication solutions available with our Qualcomm 3D Sonic Gen 2 technology.”
