The French Open is no stranger to seeing its ‘Roland Garros’ location on cars with a slew of special edition Peugeots having worn the badge in the past – now it’s the turn of Renault and in particular the new Renault 5 Roland Garros.
It’s still only a prototype of the upcoming Renault 5, but the French firm insists this new take “is a special French Open version and preview of the future production model”. The all-electric Renault 5 will make its debut next year to challenge the likes of the MINI Cooper Electric, Peugeot e-208, Fiat 500e and MG4.
As for this Roland Garros version, there are a few details to tell it apart from the standard model. Renault has given it a new colourway with a satin black roof contrasting with a metallic white body.
There’s also a subtle backlit Roland Garros logo on the side vents, combined with St Andrew’s cross – an iconic part of the Roland Garros stadium’s design. The window trims are finished in chrome satin and the wheels get a new anodised blue colour to them.
The Renault 5 Roland Garros will be on display at the tournament from 22 May to 11 June, alongside the new Renault Espace E-Tech and the Renault 4EVER Trophy concept car.
