New iPhone 16 could launch on this date – Apple confirms major event next month

A new iPhone 16 range could be coming soon and September 9 is the date Apple fans must pop in their diaries. The US technology giant has just sent out invites to a major launch event at its Steve Jobs theatre in Cupertino, California and it’s almost certain that a major update to the firm’s popular smartphone will be the hottest news from the packed keynote.

“It’s Glowtime”, the message reads along with an image of a colourful Apple logo. Rumours have been rife for weeks that new devices are on their way and now we have full confirmation including a 6pm BST start time.

Apple is bucking the trend this year by launching its new devices on a Monday – previous years have almost always seen the upgrades arriving later in the week.

Of course, Apple always keeps its cards very close to its chest so we won’t know what will be new until the day itself.

However, we’re expecting the iPhone 16 range to be much faster, have brighter screens, a refreshed design and longer battery life. Camera upgrades are sure to be included along with a possible update to the popular Action Button which could add more gestures to this useful iPhone Pro feature.

Quicker refilling could also be included along with access to Apple Intelligence which was announced earlier this year.

Apple confirmed this new AI software back in June, and it brings an updated Siri with the ability to pull data from all your apps so you can ask more detailed questions and get accurate answers. An example is asking your iPhone what time you need to pick someone up from the airport, and your iPhone will scan your emails, texts, and other data – privately – to find the correct answer, including scanning up-to-date flight times to account for delays.

Of course, this event won’t just be about the iPhone. We’re also expecting a swathe of other devices to be shown to the world as well including new AirPods, updates to the Apple Watch and improved Homepods.

It’s sure to be an exciting evening and Express.co.uk will bring you all the news live as it happens so watch this space.
