GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The highway will be expanding to a four-lane roadway.
Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele said the project will not only expand the highway, but also open new opportunities for new businesses. He also said the project will cost an estimated $33 million.
Wes Wahlgren, division engineer for NDOT district 4, said the expansion is expected to be finished within the next two years and that construction is well underway.
NDOT Director Vicki Kramer said this expansion will help solve roadway congestion and makes the highway safer for drivers. She also emphasized the importance for all Nebraska drivers to put their phones down while on the road and to stay within the posted speed limit as ways to reduce accidents on the road.
Kramer emphasized this because of the number of accidents that have already happened this summer in Nebraska.
