Angela Bassett received the most prestigious award of the night, which was the entertainer of the year. She also won outstanding supporting actress in a motion picture for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and outstanding actress in a drama series for her performance in 9-1-1 on FOX.
Beyoncé, who was not present during the telecast, won three awards in categories that were presented prior to Saturday. She received an outstanding album for Renaissance, outstanding soul/R&B song for “Cuff It,” and outstanding female artist.
Several other individuals also won multiple awards at the event. Chris Brown, Quinta Brunson, Ryan Coogler, and Viola Davis each won two awards, not including any awards their respective shows may have received.
The NAACP Image Awards 2023 crowned Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as the outstanding motion picture, just as the original Black Panther did four years ago. This also marks the second time in three years that a franchise film has won in this category, following Bad Boys for Life’s victory two years ago.
In the television categories, ABC‘s Abbott Elementary received the outstanding comedy series award, while Starz’s P-Valley took home the outstanding drama series award.
