A VINTAGE car owner has shown off a “genius” feature which means he never has to de-ice it in winter – most modern motors don’t have it.
Aaron from Retrogarage, a specialist car dealership in Ireland, took to TikTok to share the amazing cold weather hack.
In the video, he revealed a couple of convenient quirks on his 1991 Audi Quattro Coupe.
Some were mechanical goodies to do with the all-wheel drive system and oil temperature but three nifty pieces of tech were winter lifesavers.
First of all, on the rear window, the Quattro name written into the glass is actually part of the demister.
This means that drivers can enjoy the stylish touch without sacrificing the ability to clear the fog from the glass, which would leave the view patchy at best.
Secondly, the glass in the wing mirrors is heated, meaning they can clear themselves of mist, dew or ice at the press of a button.
However, the biggest advantage Aaron has over Jack Frost comes in the form of the heated windscreen washer.
As the name suggests this heats the screenwash to help prevent it from freezing on the windscreen in sub-zero temperatures.
Very few modern cars have it, though models from companies like Ford, VW and Skoda have been known to use heated windscreens for a similar effect.
Social media commenters loved the handy gadget.
One wrote: “That heated windshield washer is real genius.”
Another added: “That quattro rear demister is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.”
It comes after a man who had been using a scraper to clear his icy windshield for 40 years was amazed to find an easy 5p cure.
Meanwhile, EV drivers were issued a charging warning as one mechanic claimed they “aren’t made for the cold”.
