The ministry, through its Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres (IPFCs), will build a partnership with the Denmark Patent Office to process applications for transferring technology under the IPR framework, along with the acquisition of trademarks and patents (licensing) by MSMEs.
“Many innovators are unwilling to share their technology with the Indian players because of IPR protection issues. This partnership will lend a structure to IPR transfer to MSMEs, ensuring innovators get the royalty fee and MSMEs get the technology,” said an official aware of the development.
The ministry and the Denmark Patent Office will conduct workshops for IPFCS, developing centres’ capacity and understanding of the IPR application and registration process.
“IPR experts from Denmark Patent Office will create a curriculum that will act as a guide for IPFCs in facilitating patent, trademark and other IPR registrations for MSMEs,” said the official.
The initiative is likely to boost the innovation ecosystem as MSMEs, Industry leaders, and academia come together to discuss ways to protect and commercialise IPR.“The initiative will help create an environment that will encourage IP protection and commercialisation,” said the official.Under this initiative, the ministry will bear 70% of registration and other acquisition costs, with the ministry targeting 2500 different innovation registrations in FY26.
The ministry plans to build similar partnerships with the UK and the US Patent Office.
