TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta, or MRT Jakarta, plans to launch a shuttle bus for employees as an alternative service to private vehicles or bus transit this September 2023. This is part of the efforts to curb air pollution and traffic congestion in the capital city.
“In the initial stage, we will start providing a shuttle transport for MRT employees,” PT MRT Jakarta’s head of customer engagement unit, M. Iqbal Bimo, said in a discussion at MRT HQ on Wednesday, August 30.
Iqbal explained that congested roads and high levels of pollution ultimately lead to higher stress levels for office workers, hindering their creativity and productivity.
“To help reduce the use of private vehicles which contribute to increased air pollution, we will launch the employee shuttle program,” he announced.
The MRT, he said, will use the feeder bus to serve employees. The service will later be extended to employees’ residential areas within a radius of 5-15 kilometers from the Jakarta MRT station.
In the future, the car-sharing service will also serve civil servants or employees of regional-owned companies, as well as employees of ministries and private sectors.
MRT Jakarta Operations Director Muhammad Effendi believed that the expansion of the service would further reduce traffic congestion in the capital. “Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin will be much smoother.”
