The Africa CDC has declared the increasing spread of mpox across continent as health emergency, warning of potential international spread. “Today, the Emergency Committee met and advised me that, in its view, the situation constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice. A public health emergency of international concern is the highest level of alarm under international health law. The Emergency Committee’s advice to me, and that of the Africa CDC (continental autonomous health agency of the African Union), which declared a public health emergency of regional security, is aligned,” Director General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
