MGM Resorts International experienced a cybersecurity breach on Sunday that (noticeably) affected its systems beginning Monday morning. The breach went deep enough to take down the company’s ability to check guests into its various resort locations, including the ability for guests to be able to get in or out of their rooms using the digital lock/key systems.
The effects came in the early morning hours on Monday, forcing the company to advise guests via its website to reach out via phone to book or modify their reservations. Also, room service and other services normally charged to the room had to be charged to cards manually in the meantime.
Some gambling-related machines (i.e., digital slot machines that depend on the network) on the casino floor were also affected, forcing them offline until the company was able to bring them back online again. Meanwhile, the company has been working with the FBI to investigate the incident and bring systems back online.

As of this time (Tuesday morning), the company’s website is still offline with a notice to customers that they have to reach out via phone to book or modify reservations. As well as additional resources where customers can purchase tickets and other activities.
So far, there have been no mentions of if there are any related data leaks associated with this breach or not. Thus it may only extend to the availability of certain systems. There is no telling until either the company or the investigating agencies comment further and decide to release the information.
