Martin Lewis issues 'IMPORTANT' warning for millions over £400 energy support deadline

Money Saving Expert issued a stern warning to fans as he reminded social media users that the window for claiming Energy Bill Support Scheme vouchers is swiftly closing.

Direct debit customers have been enjoying the discount automatically, but those with prepayment meters need to claim their discount through vouchers.

And they have just nine days to go before they become null and void.

In a late-night Twitter post on June 22, he reminded his followers: “IMPORTANT! You’ve 10 days left to redeem your energy voucher for non smart prepay meters.”

Speaking on the Martin Lewis Money show, he also highlighted: “If you’re a prepayment energy customer, you only have 10 days left to claim those £66 or £67 month vouchers that you got…1.7 million are still unused, the deadline is the end of this month.”

Customers need to take their vouchers and ID to a local post office or PayPoint outlet before the deadline.

The alert comes after revelations that approximately £130 million in support remains untapped and unclaimed.

National Energy Action CEO, Adam Scorer, said: “We urge anyone who hasn’t yet claimed their vouchers to do so before the June 30 deadline and if you have friends and family that may not have used their vouchers, spread the word.

“It may be the support that keeps their lights on, their oven cooking, their hot showers running, through the summer. It’s vital money at a time when it’s never been needed more.”
