Malware attack detected at AIIMS; cyber security systems neutralise threat – The Economic Times

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday said it had detected a malware attack on its systems which was successfully thwarted by its cyber-security systems. “A malware attack was detected at AIIMS New Delhi. The attempt was successfully thwarted, and the threat was neutralised by the deployed cyber-security systems,” the government-run hospital said in a statement on Twitter.

The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that there had been no cyber incident or breach of the hospitals systems.

“E-Hospital is an internal application not available for internet users. Someone may have tried accessing this portal and alert generated due to security layer used by AIIMS. Same person may have taken a screenshot of error msg and circulated it. There is no cyberincident or breach. Error msgs have also been rectified now,” Chandrasekhar said in a tweet.

The attack on the country’s premier hospital comes nearly six months after another such attack had left its online systems unavailable for almost a month.

The attack, which was discovered on November 23, ended 22 days later on December 15 when most systems, including online booking and registration of patients were restored.
