Chesterfield Township Library

Mann for children; ‘Dry’ by Neal Shusterman for teens and ‘The Story of More: How we got to climate change and where to go from here’ by Hope Jackson.

St. Clair Shores Public Library
• 1st Stop for Tots will be at 10 a.m. Mondays on the grounds of the Selinksy-Green Farmhouse Museum includes 30 minutes of songs, rhymes and a story. • 1st Stop For Tots At Home kits. Families with children between the age of birth and age 3 that reside in St. Clair Shores can request a kit. They contain one board book, one Easy book, on shaky egg, once scarf, one set of bells, two rhythm sticks, one Basic Skills Practice Ring set, a rhyme booklet, a tips sheet and TALK promotional materials for families to keep. • The Youth Services department, with the help of grant funding, has created 14 explorer packs for children and families to check out. Each pack contains learning tools, non fiction books, activity sheets, identification guides and other manipulatives centered on an outdoor activity. Topics include insects, bird watching, astronomy water, hiking, plants and rocks. To check out an Explorer pack or for more information, ask at the Youth Services Desk.

Shelby Township Public Library
• Tech Support at the Library 1-3 p.m. Sept. 26. Tech librarian is available for questions during these two hour blocks. First come, first-served. Bring your devices and questions and we will work together for a solution. Popular solutions include setting up tablets with library e-services such as Libby and Hoopla, formatting Word documents, and creating email accounts.
• Baby Bears Storytime10-10:30 a.m. Sept. 29 Those ages 2 and under can drop in for short stories, songs, lap bounces and playtime with other little ones.
• Teen Advisory Board 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Teen Advisory Board meets once a month to help develop events that teens want to see in the library and suggest book and movie titles to purchase. Teens in grades 7-12 involved with the library’s Teen Advisory Board are actively engaged in shaping the library into a community space for teens. Teens may fill out an application and return it to a librarian.
• Paws to Read 9:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 7 for those in grades kindergarten and up. Develop reading skills with a supportive friend who won’t judge or interrupt. Children and their caregivers can check in at the children’s desk to take turns reading to a certified therapy dog with its handler. Bring a book from home to read or choose one in the library.
• Storytime at 10 a.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays for children of all ages with an adult starting the week of Sept. 18 through the week of Oct. 16. Programs of stories and music. • Tech Talks 10 a.m. Mondays. Bring your coffee and curiosity as our tech librarian covers popular topics in the technology world. For beginners and those wanting to learn a little more. All learners are welcome.
• After School Teen Hangout 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays until Dec. 13 (no hangout Oct. 18) Those in grades 7-12 can drop by to play some tabletop, board or party games.

Sterling Heights Public Library
• Library cardholders can reserve a time to use the Maker’s Space by appointment. Look for Maker Space Lab on the program calendar.

Warren Public Libraries
• All Warren public library branches will be able to offer a telescope for patrons to check out with a valid library card thanks to being selected to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative to increase and enhance science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) opportunities for library patrons. The Warren Civic Center library will offer telescope events throughout the year as well.
Warren Public Library
• September is Library Card Sign Up Month. There will be library card sign-up drawings. Warren residents who sign up for a new library card or visit the library to check out items using their current library card during the month of September can enter a drawing to win a prize or a gift card. Warren residents can also stop by to get free replacement library cards. The library offers free courtesy library cards to patrons who work in Warren with proof of employment in the form of a letter, pay check stub, or employment badge. Stop by the circulation desk at any Warren Public Library for details.
Warren Busch Branch Library
• Grab-and-Go Science at Busch Branch Library has science themed kits available for check out exploring topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with fun and kid-friendly hands on activities. Each kit also contains a related book and instructions. For children, tweens and teens ages six and up, recommended ages vary by kit and activity. More kits will be added to the collection soon. They can be checked out for 21 days and renewed up to two times and must be checked out and returned to the Busch Branch.

Warren Civic Center Library
• Children’s Book Boxes, a subscription box program for children in grades 3-5. To sign up you must live in Warren and have a valid Warren Library card. • PAWS To Read 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays. Children of all ages can come and read to therapy dog Desmond and Sashi. The PAWS program welcomes new and struggling readers to read to a certified therapy dog. The goal is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in which kids can read without correction or interruption and learn not just to read, but to love reading as well. No registration required.

All Macomb County libraries, as part of the Suburban Library Cooperative, subscribe to RB Digital which has over 100 digital magazines that can be checked out immediately. They also offer educational services through Tutor.com, which provides homework help, test preparation and term paper and resume review.
