Chesterfield Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org. Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, including  Hoopla, Libby by OverDrive and cloudLibrary for e-books and audiobooks, TV shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• Music at Main 2 p.m. Oct. 1. Performance by the pop-rock band Escape Plan  No registration required.

• Children in grades 2-12 are invited to learn more about insects at the South Branch at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7. The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Mobile Learning Center will be on hand for this presentation. To register, call 586-226-5073.

• CMPL is again offering the 1-2-3 program combining one topic, two communities and three age appropriate books that discuss a particular topic. This year is climate change. Intentional programming centered on the topic will be offered. Books chosen are ‘The Tantrum that Saved the World’ by Megan Herbert and Michael E. Mann for children; ‘Dry’ by Neal Shusterman for teens and ‘The Story of More: How we got to climate change and where to go from here’ by Hope Jackson.

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registration, which can be done at cmpl.libnet.info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

Eastpointe Public Library

•Creepy Places in Michigan With True Crime author, Tobin Buhk 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Register at the library or call 586-445-5096.

• The library has an ongoing canned food drive. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off during open hours.

• The library is open to the public and  for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials.

Fraser Public Library

• PAWS to Read at Fraser Library 5-6  p.m. Sept. 25. Register for a 15-minute reading slot.

Harrison Township Public Library

• Knitting and Crochet Circle 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10,17, 24 and 31. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome to bring your own project and supplies. Items are donated to charitable organizations and the group is also accepting donations of yarn, fleece or craft store gift cards. Group donates to charitable organizations like Beaumont Little Angels, Project Linus, Compassion Pregnancy and more to give comfort items in times of need. Also accepting donations of Beanie Babies for children that are in need of comfort.

• Rebel Words: Celebrating Banned Books Week Oct. 2-7 Participate in several ways. Guess the shredded book for a chance to win the contest, participate in Banned Books Trivia, or just check out the display and read a banned book. We think you’ll be surprised by some of the books that have been banned.

• Music and Movement with Music Maker Marge! 10 a.m. Tuesdays Oct. 2-31. Children walking through age 5 can enjoy  Songs and stories set to music. No registration required. Drop-ins welcome.

• Baby play group 10 a.m. Mondays Sept. 11-Oct. 30 (no group Oct. 16). Children 6 to 24 months can join Miss Tina for stories and songs, and then let your babies play together for the rest of the time! This is a great way for babies and parents to spend time together and enjoy themselves while building early literacy skills. Registration not required.

Residents can request materials be delivered to their homes. Request materials, once notified they are ready for pickup, contact the library at 586-329-1261 to set up delivery time.

MacDonald Public Library

Mount Clemens Public Library

• Historical database workshop 11 a.m.-noon Sept. 25. Join us to learn about the different historical research databases MCPL has to offer. Registration not required.

• In The Tradition Jazz Ensemble 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Detroit-based ensemble has distinguished itself for its impeccable delivery of jazz music with an African-centered perspective. Fun for the entire family! Registration not required.

• Kindergarden Blooms 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept 5- Oct. 10. Kindergartners can get extra support with literacy skills through fun and engaging centers. Session 1 will focus on identifying the letters of the alphabet. Registration required online.

• Adult Drop-In Dungeons and Dragons – Mondays from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The group of players tell a collective story, guiding heroes through dangerous quests to search for treasure, battle deadly foes, and even carry out daring rescues.

• YA Game Day Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. Fridays. It’s been a long week so come visit our library for Friday fun. There will be different games set out every Friday for teens to enjoy.

• Resume review 4-7 p.m. Mondays. Bring your resume to adult services for a resume review. Experts will critique, revise, and make it great for your next job search. If you cannot come on Mondays, call 586-469-6200. for an appointment.

Ray Township Library

• Rosie the Riveter by Claire Kitchin Dahl 12 p.m. Oct. 7. Claire will be teaching about the history of the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant and honor the women who were the “Original Rosies” during WWII. All ages welcome.

Romeo District Library

• Conversation with author Angeline Boulley at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at Romeo Middle School, 11091 32 Mile Road, Romeo. Author of ‘Firekeeper’s Daughter.’ Books will be available for purchase and signing at event.  Attendees are asked to use the entrance at the back northeast corner of the building.

Roseville Public Library

• Story Time 10 a.m. Sept.  25. Join Miss Amanda for stories, songs, movement and crafts that encourage the development of early learning skills. For toddlers and preschoolers with their caregivers. Drop-in program, no registration required.

• Puzzle Tournament 1-3 p.m. Sept. 30 Sign up with a group of 2-4 people. Single puzzlers will be assigned to a group. The team closest to completing the jigsaw puzzle when time runs out wins! Each member of the winning team will receive an award. Registration required.

• Yarn Pumpkin Garland Craft 6 p.m. Oct. 3. Looking for new fall decorations for your home? Add a touch of harvest with your very own yarn pumpkin garland! Registration required.

• Teen Community Service 5 p.m. Oct. 4. High school students age 14-18 that need service hours? Make cat and dog blankets and toys for the Macomb County Animal Shelter at the library and get credit for volunteering for that organization. Registration required.

• Booked for the Evening at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Selection is ‘In Five Years’ by Rebecca Serle. No registration required and welcome even if you have not read the book.

• Tail Waggin’ Tutors Prescott 5-7 p.m. Oct. 5. Come read with Prescott. Children ages 4-12 practice 15 minutes reading aloud
from a book of their choice to our friendly therapy dog. Reading with a dog can help young readers become more confident as they discover the joy of reading. Registration required.

• Mini and Me 10 a.m. Oct. 6. Children will get a chance to play and socialize with others their age, while the adults get to network and trade stories and tips. Moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, babysitters, caregivers all are welcome. No registration required.

• Book Bundles for children. Fill in the form that can be found on the website, social media or in the newsletter and choose up to three topics or themes and a librarian will put together five books and place them on hold for you to pick up.

St. Clair Shores Public Library

• 1st Stop for Tots will be at 10 a.m. Mondays on the grounds of the Selinksy-Green Farmhouse Museum includes 30 minutes of songs, rhymes and a story. In case of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled. To inquire if 1st Stop is cancelled, call the library at 586-771-9020 or check the library’s Facebook page.

• 1st Stop For Tots At Home kits. Families with children between the age of birth and age 3 that reside in St. Clair Shores can request a kit. They contain one board book, one Easy book, on shaky egg, once scarf, one set of bells, two rhythm sticks, one Basic Skills Practice Ring set, a rhyme booklet, a tips sheet and TALK promotional materials for families to keep. To reserve a kit, call the library at 586-771-9020, stop at the Youth Services Desk or email SCSYouth@libcoop.net.

• The Youth Services department, with the help of grant funding, has created 14 explorer packs for children and families to check out. Each pack contains learning tools, non fiction books, activity sheets, identification guides and other manipulatives centered on an outdoor activity. Topics include insects, bird watching, astronomy water, hiking, plants and rocks. To check out an Explorer pack or for more information, ask at the Youth Services Desk.

Shelby Township Public Library

• Tech Support at the Library 1-3 p.m. Sept. 26. Tech librarian is available for questions during these two hour blocks. First come, first-served. Bring your devices and questions and we will work together for a solution. Popular solutions include setting up tablets with library e-services such as Libby and Hoopla, formatting Word documents, and creating email accounts.

• Baby Bears Storytime10-10:30 a.m. Sept. 29 Those ages 2 and under can drop in for short stories, songs, lap bounces and playtime with other little ones.

• Teen Advisory Board 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Teen Advisory Board meets once a month to help develop events that teens want to see in the library and suggest book and movie titles to purchase. Teens in grades 7-12 involved with the library’s Teen Advisory Board are actively engaged in shaping the library into a community space for teens. Teens may fill out an application and return it to a librarian.

• Paws to Read 9:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 7 for those in grades kindergarten and up. Develop reading skills with a supportive friend who won’t judge or interrupt. Children and their caregivers can check in at the children’s desk to take turns reading to a certified therapy dog with its handler. Bring a book from home to read or choose one in the library.

• Storytime at 10 a.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays  for children of all ages with an adult starting the week of Sept. 18 through the week of Oct. 16. Programs of stories and music. Registration is required. Space is limited. Registration can be done in person, by calling 586-771-9020 or emailing SCSYouth@libcoop.net.

• Preschool Pages 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 19 (no storytime Nov. 21) for those ages 3.5-5. Stories and activities for preschoolers to help prepare them for kindergarten. Shelby Township residents may register online one week in advance for each class.

• Tech Talks 10 a.m. Mondays. Bring your coffee and curiosity as our tech librarian covers popular topics in the technology world. For beginners and those wanting to learn a little more. All learners are welcome.

• After School Teen Hangout 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays until Dec. 13 (no hangout Oct. 18) Those in grades 7-12 can drop by to play some tabletop, board or party games.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• Library cardholders can reserve a time to use the Maker’s Space by appointment. Look for Maker Space Lab on the program calendar.

• Biblio Book Box offered for adults and Teen Book Box for teens offered every month. Register and a librarian will will pick a book based on your preferences and include a surprise.

• Toddler Time and Preschool storytimes are both offered at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Registration is required. Check the library calendar for full details.

• PAWS for Reading 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays. The first 10 children to check in at the youth desk on Tuesday nights will be able to read to a therapy dog.

• The Upton House is open for self guided tours from 1-4 p.m. every Wednesday and second Sunday of the month. Register up to six people in a household. Registration only required for Wednesdays.

• Sterling Heights Public Library will continue curbside materials service, phone service, and home delivery/outreach service on Monday – Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, 24/7 digital library services are available at shpl.net.

Warren Public Libraries

• All Warren public library branches will be able to offer a telescope for patrons to check out with a valid library card thanks to being selected to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative to increase and enhance science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) opportunities for library patrons. The Warren Civic Center library will offer telescope events throughout the year as well.

Warren Public Library

• September is Library Card Sign Up Month. There will be library card sign-up drawings. Warren residents who sign up for a new library card or visit the library to check out items using their current library card during the month of September can enter a drawing to win a prize or a gift card. Warren residents can also stop by to get free replacement library cards. The library offers free courtesy library cards to patrons who work in Warren with proof of employment in the form of a letter, pay check stub, or employment badge. Stop by the circulation desk at any Warren Public Library for details.

Warren Busch Branch Library

• Grab-and-Go Science at Busch Branch Library has science themed kits available for check out exploring topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with fun and kid-friendly hands on activities. Each kit also contains a related book and instructions. For children, tweens and teens ages six and up, recommended ages vary by kit and activity.  More kits will be added to the collection soon. They can be checked out for 21 days and renewed up to two times and must be checked out and returned to the Busch Branch.

Warren Civic Center Library

• Children’s Book Boxes, a subscription box program for children in grades 3-5. To sign up you must live in Warren and have a valid Warren Library card. Each box will contain 1-2 library books selected based on your preferences and one free book to keep. Boxes will contain fun surprises too! Sign up online at warrenlibrary.net/childrens-book-boxes

• PAWS To Read 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays. Children of all ages can come and read to therapy dog Desmond and Sashi. The PAWS program welcomes new and struggling readers to read to a certified therapy dog. The goal is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in which kids can read without correction or interruption and learn not just to read, but to love reading as well. No registration required.

The library is located at 1 City Square, Suite 100, Warren.

All Macomb County libraries, as part of the Suburban Library Cooperative, subscribe to RB Digital which has over 100 digital magazines that can be checked out immediately. They also offer educational services through Tutor.com, which provides homework help, test preparation and term paper and resume review.  Students can use their student ID number to access those services. Items for Library events should be emailed at least two weeks in advance of events to estark@medianewsgroup.com.
