Honour: Julia Hoggett
A host of business leaders have been named in the King’s birthday honours.
London Stock Exchange chief executive Julia Hoggett and fashion designer Anya Hindmarch have been made dames while HSBC chairman Mark Tucker was knighted.
Energy bosses Greg Jackson of Octopus Energy and Alistair Phillips-Davies of SSE have been made Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the industry.
Also handed CBEs were John Burns, founder of property group Derwent London, Taylor Wimpey chief Jennie Daly, former Unilever boss Alan Jope and venture capitalist Jon Moulton.
Hoggett took over at the LSE three years ago, becoming the first lesbian boss of the exchange.
She is the daughter of Baroness Hale – once Britain’s most senior judge – and last weekend told the Mail on Sunday her ‘privileged’ upbringing shows there is much more to do for diversity.
‘Because I’m female, I’m a mother and I’m openly gay, I often get rolled out as a sort of big proof that we’ve cracked it.
‘I’m proof we haven’t cracked it because I come from a very privileged background.’
