Let customers buy a share in John Lewis | Brief letters

If John Lewis needs to raise capital without departing too far from its staff partnership model (How to solve a problem like John Lewis? Retail experts give their views, 24 March), why doesn’t it follow the Co-op’s example and invite customers to join the business? Many would be eager to buy a £10 share in the firm in exchange for a few special offers and maybe 1% off purchases above a certain amount.

Your analysis of the England v Ukraine match (27 March) referred to “the ball curving straight from Saka’s foot and continuing in a cool, smooth parabola … a section of a perfect circle”. Wrong! Parabolas and circles are mathematically different curves, and no football (or anything else for that matter) could travel along both at the same time.
