Leaked photo gives sneak peek of the new Google Pixel 8

This year’s upcoming Google product releases are possibly the industry’s worst-kept secret, as a picture of the new Google Pixel phone and smartwatch has once again leaked days before the official launch.

Just a day after Apple sent out invites for its iPhone 15 event, Google has blocked the calendar for an in-person launch event in New York on October 4, at 3pm UK time.

However, the tech giant might have jumped the gun and accidentally uploaded an image of the Pixel 8 to one of its product pages.

Although it has now been removed, eagle-eyed social media users were quick to save the image.

Android leaker Mishaal Rahman tweeted the image that appears to show a Pixel 8 phone and the new Pixel Watch. The leak was originally spotted by the Twitter account Android Setting.

‘The alt text for the image even says “a person takes a call on a Pixel 8 Pro phone in Porcelain”.’ tweeter Mr Rahman.

Google will likely unveil its Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at the event. We could also get an upgraded Pixel Watch, which should be a step up from the underwhelming first generation model introduced last year.

The Pixel Buds A-Series and Pixel Buds Pro could see potential updates, but it’s too soon for anything new on the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet that launched early this year.

The official invitation sent to media mentioned that Google’s launch event would introduce the latest additions to its ‘Pixel portfolio of devices’, so it’s doubtful if we’ll hear about other Google hardware brands like Nest or Fitbit.

Google eventually posted about the event on social media with a playful dig at Apple. The post includes a video showing a Pixel and an iPhone in a sauna discussing launches, with the iPhone lamenting its inability to keep up – but hinting that it would soon at least have USB-C charging.

The tweet also contains a link to the Google Store so you can sign up for updates once they’re available.
