Kivera Raises $5.1M in Seed Round to Expand Cloud Security … – Clayton County Register

Cloud security startup Kivera, originally founded in Sydney, has secured $5.1 million in a recent seed round from investors in the US and Canada. The funding was led by Canada’s Round 13 Capital, along with cybersecurity investor General Advance from New York. Notable angel investors include senior executives from major tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Shift5, ServiceNow, and Zscaler, as well as Srinath Kuruvadi, the head of cloud security at JP Morgan & Chase, Ely Kahn from SentinelOne, and Dimitri Sirota from BigID.

Kivera, which already moved its headquarters to New York, plans to use the capital infusion to support recruitment efforts as it expands across North America. Last month, the company appointed Joe Lea, former president of US fleet logistics startup Shift5, as its new CEO.

The cloud security platform, founded by Neil Brown and Vernon Jefferson in 2020, offers services that support major cloud providers such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and MSFT Azure. It provides solutions for cloud protection, securing cloud data, simplified compliance, enabling cloud agility, and offering granular cloud visibility.

The company aims to help cloud security teams gain control over their operations by reducing the backlog of alerts and preventing risks upfront. Kivera allows developers to choose the most suitable orchestration tool for their projects without constant interruptions.

Investor Ely Kahn of SentinelOne believes that Kivera’s Cloud Security Protection Platform has the potential to shift the security paradigm by preventing misconfigurations and enabling a preventative security posture, rather than relying on post-incident detection.

With this funding round, Kivera is demonstrating its ability to address specific pain points for customers and aims to revolutionize the way cybersecurity teams approach cloud security from the configuration level.
