Sewage flusher Nick Fox shared with The Evening Standard why he chooses to work in the world of human waste.

He said: “The smell is more like earthy compost.

“It’s like being stood in a slightly brown stream, and not much higher than your ankles.”

But there is a catch to the high-paying positon: tackling what sewer flushers call “fatbergs”.

Baby wipes, oil, grease and other drain blockers accumulate in the sewage system and can reach massive sizes.

Nick said he and his 11-man team work nine hour shifts, and sometimes work nights to tackle busy areas like Westminster.

But the sewers themselves are apparently gorgeous, with brickwork dating back nearly 150 years.

He said: “We’re looking after one of the crown jewels of Victorian engineering. It’s almost up there with the Tube but no one really knows about it.”

Would you go into the London sewers to make a big salary?

Another position you’ve probably never heard of pays £50k and you won’t need a degree – but there’s a catch.

Fearless window cleaners responsible for making sure London’s The Gherkin is sparkling can earn huge salaries.

Standing at 180metres tall and with nearly 7500 window panes, the iconic building is a big cleaning project.

But you could earn £50k per year if you’re brave enough to scale the sides, Business Insider reports.

It usually takes nine cleaners about 10 days to complete the mammoth project.

Window cleaners don’t usually need university degrees – but given the scale needed for this job other training is likely required.

An even weirder job was offered by a university in California, who put out a call for someone to earn money by eating avocados.

They were inundated with applications and 250 people managed to snag a place on the three-month trial.

From cuddling people for money to mourning the deaths of strangers on a day-to-day basis, there’s a whole glut of unusual jobs if you’re looking for a career change.
