JCSD1 Transportation Director Reports on Bus Routes, Drivers – Sheridan Media

Johnson County School District #1 Transportation Director Bill McKenzie, in his report to the school board this week, said his department will be offering the same limited bus routes this year as last, due to the continued shortage of drivers.

He did announce in his written report that he has hired two new full-time drivers that already have prior bus driving experience, and have their Commercial Drivers Licenses with the proper endorsements.

They will be assigned daily routes and will be working midday as drivers for the Special Education Department and for New West High School.

The department is still in need of one more route driver to offer the same number of routes as last year, and he hopes to fill the route with substitute drivers until a qualified, permanent driver can be hired.

He added that the transportation staff is being flexible and are committed to the safe transportation of students, with several drivers open to switching routes.

Activity and substitute drivers have offered to help outside of their normal duties.
