TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono claimed that Jakarta already has a grand design for air pollution control. The design will be implemented through the Air Pollution Control Strategy as a guideline for the provincial government of Jakarta to control air pollution by 2030.
“The next step is to ensure the effectiveness of air pollution control in accordance with the existing law,” said the governor after inaugurating the Quick Response on Air Quality Management discussion in Jakarta on Monday, August 28, 2023.
According to Heru Budi, air pollution control consists of five aspects: clean energy, low emissions technology, governance and spatial plan, emission standardization, and law enforcement.
Heru Budi also mentioned that Jakarta is currently experiencing an air pollution crisis. Thus, a legitimate action to tackle the issue is needed.
“Barring the natural factors, the activities causing emissions in Greater Jakarta must be suppressed and diverted, requiring all parties to ensure that the ecosystem is prepared. This will not be easy but the government will gradually take steps to realize it,” he said.
The air pollution management in Jakarta, said Budi, will consist of emission test tickets for vehicle emissions and control towards the industrial chimneys.
In addition, Jakarta implements the weather modification technology as a short-term solution to the pollution. “Government-owned buildings have been installed with mist generators,” Heru Budi said.
