THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (25-26, 7-17 ACC) was upended by North Carolina (25-27, 13-10 ACC), falling 4-0 in the regular season finale on Sunday at Mewborn Field.
Senior hurlers Blake Neleman and Chandler Dennis each split time in the circle for the fourth consecutive game. Neleman (10-10) got her second straight start and took the loss following 5.1 innings of work with seven punchouts while Dennis followed in relief for the final 1.2 innings.
Of the four Yellow Jackets climbing aboard from the plate, senior catcher Emma Kauf led the White and Gold with her fourth triple of the season and eighth of her career.
How it Happened
In a pitcher’s duel that began with three scoreless innings, North Carolina broke up Neleman’s no hitter with a sac fly in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.
Following a quiet fifth, the Tar Heels tacked onto their lead in the sixth with an RBI double and another run on a Tech miscue, moving up to a 3-0 advantage.
North Carolina added a security run in the top of the seventh, leading off the final frame with a solo shot before closing things out in the bottom half for a 4-0 win.
