A VAN-LIFER who’s been living on the road for three years has revealed how he gave up his house and mortgage to live a better life.
Ricky, who travels around the Peak District in his Ford Transit van, gave viewers a tour of his unique home on wheels on YouTube.
The blue van is spacious inside and includes a small kitchen, a freezer and a full bed, as well as homely extras such as an impressive sound system and a diesel heater.
Ricky does highlight the downsides of living in a van as well, which include having to get rid of a lot of his clothes due to the limited storage.
He also reveals the “toilet situation isn’t ideal” and recounts a time when his leisure battery died, leaving him without any heating.
However, perhaps the biggest bonus is not having to pay for his electricity – which is completely free thanks to his use of solar panels on the van’s roof.
Ricky reveals that, prior to van-life, he lived in a small house with his former partner and paid £600 a month for his mortgage.
But now, without the monthly payments, he’s free to travel a lot more than before – with only fuel being his main expense.
He explained: “With the finances it’s massively helped, so when I had the mortgage we were paying out a good £600 a month.
“We rented prior to that so that was £900 a month, we were left with between us about £200.
“Fun credits, we called them, and that would just that would go so quickly.”
Social media commenters were very impressed with Ricky’s set-up.
One wrote: “Some brilliant touches in this van, very inspiring.”
Another said: “This had me smiling all the way through, what a chilled out guy, best of luck to him.”
And a third simply said: “Good on you buddy, living not existing.”
This comes after a man revealed how he saves £1,400 a month by living in his converted micro-camper car and plans to use the money to build his own house.
Meanwhile, a Rolls-Royce has been found parked outside an abandoned mansion and seemingly left to rot.
The vintage motor was discovered by a TikTok star and the mystery has baffled viewers.
