Is it a bank holiday on May 1?


Banks in India are closed in some states on May 1, 2023 on the occasion of Maharashtra Day/May Day, according to the Reserve Bank of India holiday list.

The Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar list indicates that banks in India will be closed for up to 12 days in May 2023, including Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Bank holiday on May 1

Banks are closed in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Bengal, Goa, and Bihar on the occasion of Maharashtra Day, May Day. For other states, it will be a regular working day.

Maharashtra Day
Maharashtra Day, also known as Maharashtra Din, is a public holiday in the Indian state of Maharashtra that commemorates the establishment of the state of Maharashtra in India.

The month of May has some popular occasions like Maharashtra Day/May Day, Buddha Purnima, Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, State Day and Maharana Pratap Jayanti due to which banks will be closed across respective states. The second and fourth Saturdays are also designated holidays.

May 5 (Friday)- Buddha Purnima: Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh.
May 9 (Tuesday)- Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore: Bengal
May 16 (Tuesday)- State Day: Sikkim
May 22 (Monday)- Maharana Pratap Jayanti: Himachal Pradesh.
