Is he the new Usain bolt? All about the 16-year old Australian sensation Gout Gout who broke his record

A young Australian star has edged past Usain Bolt‘s record at the U20 World Championships in Peru. Sixteen-year-old Gout Gout clocked a silver-medal time of 20.60 seconds in the 200m race, narrowly surpassing Bolt’s 2002 performance at a similar age. Bolt had run 20.61 seconds in the final but had achieved 20.58 seconds in the heats.

South African Bayanda Walaza won gold with a time of 20.54 seconds, while Britain’s Jake Odey-Jordan took bronze with a time of 20.81 seconds. Gout, whose roots trace back to South Sudan and who hails from Brisbane, expressed his relief after the race: “I’m feeling really relieved after a long two weeks of being in Lima.” He also noted, “I’ve been training, grinding, and just waiting patiently for this race to happen. Now that it’s done, I’m really glad and ready to get in my bed and rest up for the (4x100m) relay.”

Is Gout similar to Bolt?

Gout has been compared to Bolt by various figures, including Athletics Australia president Jane Flemming. Gout himself described these comparisons as “pretty cool.” Meanwhile, Jamaica’s rising star Nickecoy Bramwell shattered Bolt’s under-17 400m world record at the Carifta Games in Grenada, clocking an impressive 47.26 seconds.

With Bramwell excelling in longer distances, Gout is emerging as a strong contender for Bolt’s age-group records in the 100m and 200m. Gout’s current personal bests are 20.60 seconds in the 200m and 10.29 seconds in the 100m. Bramwell’s best in the 400m is 46.75 seconds, while his top times in the 200m and 100m are 21.45 and 10.94 seconds, respectively.

Gout may target new championship record

Bolt set a championship record of 20.40 seconds in the 200m at the 2003 World Youth Championships, a milestone Gout might soon challenge. Bolt’s transition from youth to senior level saw him initially struggle with injury but eventually claim silver in the 200m at the 2007 World Championships, before achieving a historic sprint double gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
