Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models later this year with major changes. The significant upgrade for the standard iPhone 15 models will be the new Dynamic Island on the display which will help Apple boost sales, unlike the iPhone 14 models that did not bring anything new to the table. However, the iPhone 15 Pro models are a favorite of Apple and the devices will undergo major variations. We have previously reported that solid-state buttons will be coming to the ‘Pro’ lineup. Now, we are hearing that Apple will ditch the Mute Switch on the iPhone 15 Pro in favor of an Apple Watch-like customizable Action button.
Action Button will replace the Mute Switch on the iPhone 15 Pro models, slated to feature customizable controls like the Apple Watch Ultra
The iPhone has had a Mute Switch since its debut and while the Action Button is more practical, it is unfortunate to see the prior go with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro. The Action Button was first introduced with the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra. The wearable comes with an accented bright orange button on the side that can be customized to trigger certain features in wearOS. The news was shared by a leaker on the MacRumors forums member along with other details.
At this point in time, it is not clear what features will be able to take advantage of the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro. On the Apple Watch Ultra, the Action Button can be customized to control the Stopwatch, Flashlight, Shortcuts, Backtrack, Workout, and more. On the iPhone, Apple could implement certain Accessibility features for easier access. For instance, the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro could control the Flashlight, enable/disable Low Power Mode, Camera shortcut, screenshots, screen recording, Lock rotation, and much more.
This is not the first time we are hearing details on the removal of the Mute Switch. However, the addition of an Action Button makes a lot of sense. We have also previously heard that the solid-state buttons on the device will house a new super low-energy microprocessor that will function even after the handset runs out of battery. As for the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, the iPhone 15 Pro models will offer a single elongated solid-state solution. Altogether, the device will feature three Taptic Engines to mimic the haptic feedback of the button presses.
These are some of the major changes that we are expecting with the iPhone 15 Pro models later this year. We will keep you guys updated on the latest, so be sure to stick around.
