Pune: Several elderly residents of the Athashri Society, in Baner, have complained that someone has been repeatedly cutting the internet cables on the terrace, causing them major inconvenience.
Manohar Bodus, an 86-year-old resident, lodged a complaint against persons responsible with the Chatushrungi police. Police registered a case of mischief against the unidentified persons on Thursday evening.
Following this, the Chatushrungi police visited the spot. They are trying to ascertain the identity of the person(s) cutting the cables. “It is not yet known who is behind the act,” a police officer said.
Bodus said, “It is not known who cut the high-speed internet cables and why. No one goes to the terrace. Whoever is responsible did not just damage my cables, but of four others as well,” he said.
“All the elderly residents in the society use the internet to watch television, connect to their cellphones and even chat with their children living abroad. I regularly communicate with my two US-based children using internet connectivity,” he said.
“This has happened twice in the past 15 days alone. I was unable to watch television or communicate with my children. I thought the company had disconnected the line due to non-payment of bills. However, we have paid all the bills,” he said.
Police have asked the security guards to keep a watch on the movement of suspicious persons and not allow strangers on the society premises.
