Inside the incredible new submarine that looks more like a UFO

An incredible new submarine looks like a UFO.

The Triton 660/9 AVA has been launched as the ultimate vessel for deep sea sightseeing.

Florida-based Triton say their craft features the world’s first submersible with a free-form acrylic pressure hull.

It has been specifically designed for the cruise and hospitality sectors, with the ability to dive to 200m.

Nine occupants eight guests plus a pilot – are able to view undersea world through a large bubble-like window.

Triton say the subs are able to be quickly reconfigured between dives, and can offer a variety of dive activities, including dining or cocktail dives, spa treatments, or even subsea gaming experiences.

Following successful sea trials, DNV certification, and delivery to Valparaiso, Chile by Boeing 747 aircraft, Triton submarines have now been fully integrated on board Scenic Eclipse II cruise ship, operated by Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours.

Patrick Lahey, President and Co-Founder, Triton Submarines, said: ” We thank Scenic for their belief in Triton and our capacity to deliver the highly innovative Triton 660/9 AVA, which represents a new paradigm in the way people experience and interact with the ocean.”

Jason Flesher, Scenic Director of Discovery Operations, said: “The clarity of the acrylic hull once submerged is such that you feel at one with the water.

“Encountering the vibrant marine life of the South Pacific and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef within Scenic Neptune II will create memories to last a lifetime.”
