A CAR salesman has claimed he could make a tidy profit on a “rotten” coupe because it’s “solid as a rock”.
Care salesman James, posted the Youtube video showing off the motors in his Chops Garage.
One motor, a wine red Fiat Coupe, had been gathering dust in the corner of his lot for months.
The retro 1990s motor retailed between £17,000 and £23,000 through different editions over a seven-year period.
James, however, bought this model for around £400 and admitted it was in a “very sorry state.”
This one was one I was gonna get restored because the mileage is low on it and the condition even though it’s looking terrible is really good. It’s really solid. I came to realisation I can’t put it outside and it’s only going to get worse sitting out here
James
In the video the car can be seen covered in dirt, caped in algae and sporting flat tyres.
It’s also started to rust in some areas, has rotting interior, and damage to its paint work.
In the video, James said: “A gentleman wants to buy the Fiat Coupe, and has already booked transport for it.
“The mileage is low on it, and the condition – although it’s looking terrible – is really good.
“It’s incredibly solid, everyone that has seen it can’t believe how solid it is.”
He went on to say that he could not store it inside, but it would get worse sitting outside.
He said: “I came to realisation I can’t put it outside and it’s only going to get worse sitting out here.
“I’m going to be one of those people who says a car’s worth a load of money and then lets it sit there and rot away.
“I don’t want to be one of those people so I have let it go for slightly less than what it owes me so someone can actually get on and do it.”
Further along the video he said he needed to show the buyer that the car runs, which he was “not too keen” on as it’s been sitting there “forever and a day”.
He explained that nobody knows about the cambelt, and although he did test it when he first got it, the clutch is stuck so he can’t drive it anywhere.
He continues by saying that the reason people say it’s “so solid” is because the car has not rotted as much as they usually would given that it’s over 20 years old.
The car had not been started for over a year, but after sticking a new battery in it the car turned on just fine.
He said: “It runs, that proves the point I think.
“Now we’re going to inflate the tires so it’s an easy-roller, and the guy can come pick it up on Tuesday.
“I’m sorry to see it go, I look inside at the seats and get ideas of restoration…but I don’t have the time to do restorations.”
There have been several editions made and the same car can currently be bagged for around £4,000 online.
The motor first hit sales floors in 1993, and the cheapest edition – £17,348 – was released in 1995, reports evo.
This particular model is a 1998 20v turbo edition which is one of the most expensive ones, costing around £20,000 brand new.
The cheaper 16v 1995 model and the more expensive 20v versions can be picked up for between £4,000 and £8,000 on Auto Trader.
ROTTING MOTORS
This motorhead stumbled upon a jaw-dropping 1970s car graveyard with iconic yellow buses and banged up vintage vans.
He posted a video on YouTube which shows an abandoned Montana wasteland where rotting vehicles litter the landscape for as far as the eye can see.
Elsewhere, a motors expert unveiled a car graveyard where supercars are left to rot under the sweltering desert sun.
The expert, Philipp, showed YouTuber Discover Saeed around the eerie abandoned wasteland in Dubai.
And finally, Social media influencer Jamie Robinson spotted a huge car collection left to rot at a castle in Ireland.
