IndiGo adds 16 special Republic Day flights to meet increasing demand


Airline operator IndiGo is adding 16 special flights starting Thursday, January 19, in a bid to meet increasing demand for air connectivity. The Indian operator is also set to add an additional 12 flights to its winter schedule, starting February 1, taking the total of new flights to 28.

The Republic Day special flights are set to remain operational till the occasion.

The additional flights will be introduced between regional destinations like Bengaluru-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Ahmedabad, Bengaluru-North Goa, Mumbai-Rajkot, Raipur-Mumbai, Kolkata-Guwahati, Guwahati-Agartala and Port Blair-Chennai.

“Air travel is seeing a resurgence in the country, with more and more passengers looking to fly. A large part of this demand is coming from regional centers and as India’s leading carrier, we are fulfilling this need by adding new routes, frequencies and restarting operations on some sectors,” Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo said in a press release.

The operator is also set to add a new route between Chandigarh and North Goa. On existing routes like Kolkata-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Cochin IndiGo is increasing frequencies. Additionally, the airline will resume operations on the Hyderabad – Chandigarh and Hyderabad – Srinagar sectors.

“We are expanding our operations even further and continue to provide affordable and hassle-free connectivity for our customers,” Malhotra added.
