India imposes anti dumping duty on flat based steel wheels from China

India has imposed anti dumping duty of $613 per tonne on flat base steel wheels from China for five years.

“The anti-dumping duty imposed under this notification shall be effective for a period of five years from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette and shall be payable in Indian currency,” a notification issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said.

The product is used in tubed tyre applications in commercial vehicles.

The duty is based on the recommendation by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies(DGTR), the investigation arm of the ministry of commerce and industry to guard domestic players against cheap imports from China.
According to global trade practice, a country is allowed to impose tariffs on such dumped products to provide a level playing field for domestic manufacturers. The duty is imposed only after an investigation by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies.Apart from flat base steel wheel, DGTR is also investigating instances of anti dumping of Chinese products including alloy steel chisels, electrolytic tin plates, self-adhesive vinyl, aniline, isobutylene-isoprene rubber and pentaerythritol.
