I’m fed up with selfish drivers using parent-and-child parking spots – so I got my revenge

A MOTORIST who is fed up with selfish drivers wrongly nabbing parent-and-child parking spots has revealed how she got her revenge.

Amy Fenton was left enraged after the birth of her daughter when her trips to the supermarket were blighted by “single, seemingly healthy young adults” hogging the spots reserved for parents.

Writing for Lancashire Live, Amy fumed: “I remember one day, after a particularly dreadful sleepless night, I made my daily trip to Morrisons.

“There were no parent-and-child spaces left so I parked elsewhere and slowly made my way to the store with Abigail’s car seat banging against my constantly bruised shins.

“A youngish bloke in a BMW was returning to his car with a sandwich and a can of pop. He’d parked in a parent-and-child spot and I just lost it.

“I swore that many times I got more disapproving looks than anyone could get in a lifetime of wrongly parking in parent and child spaces.”

The spots are meant to be reserved for parents with children under the age of 12 and are usually positioned closer to the entrance to the shop.

This allows parents to get in and out without having to carry young children, as well as their shopping, all the way across the car park.

In fact, drivers can be fined up to £100 for using the spaces without kids in the car.

While Amy admitted she’d be happy for people to bend the rules for older children with disabilities or pregnant women, she found it unacceptable that fit and healthy youngsters and even single adults were filling them up.

She added: “My daughter is now eight (and, thank heavens, finally semi-independent) and even then I sometimes feel slightly fraudulent to park in a parent-and-child space.

“So how on earth a parent of a 17-year-old has the brass neck to use one of the premium spaces is beyond me.”

It comes after one homeowner was left furious by a “Karen” neighbour acting like she owned their local car park so played her at her own game.

Meanwhile, a new survey revealed the worst places in the UK for road rage as clashes between motorists rose by 40% last year.
