At the very top of his list, Ray said that you should definitely steer away if you hear the words “the factory insists”, as they will be most likely “conning” buyers.

“‘The factory insists that we charge a market adjustment’,” the car expert said impersonating fellow salesmen.

Ray explained car dealerships “always blame it on the factory” when that isn’t always the case.

“The factory has a manufacturer suggested retail price and they know you’re not going to pay that in most cases.

I moved into my car full-time and I love it SO much more than my house

“So for the dealer to insist that the factory’s the one insisting to charge more that’t just a lie.”

Ray goes on to detail another tricky phrase on his list: “The bank requires that you buy the extended warranty.”

He explained that doing so does not lower the interest rate.

“The bank would never require that you buy an extended warranty because the bank doesn’t care whether you buy one or not.

“It is just approving a loan.”

Ray is one of many experts in the car dealership industry to warn customers and offer clever hacks.

A mechanic at one of the UK’s biggest car dealers has revealed a quick check drivers always forget and it costs them £1,000s.

Arnold Clark worker Craig has lifted the lid on keeping your engine healthy and running smoothly.

In a TikTok video titled “No dancing from Craig but he’s not wrong”, the car expert can be seen at a repairs garage.

The footage then reads: “I don’t know who needs to hear this but… you need to check your oil.”

It may seem like a daunting process, but maintaining adequate oil levels can be relatively painless if you know what you’re doing.

As a general rule, you should change your engine oil every 3,000-5,000 miles or approximately every six months.
