A CAR expert has revealed her top tips for how to save hundreds on your car insurance.
Abigayle from She Talks Cars took to TikTok to share the handy hacks with her followers.
First of all, she advised drivers to buy their insurance well in advance of when they actually need it.
She described 23-26 days before you’d like your cover to begin as a “sweet spot”, while the later you leave it, the more expensive it becomes.
If you have existing cover, always make sure to renew it well before the expiry date, especially if you want to change your provider or policy.
On that subject, Abigayle also recommended shopping around to get the best value.
Comparison sites are a great way to get an idea of what’s out there, although it is sometimes cheaper to buy directly from the provider.
She added that other small alterations to key details like your job title, named driver and where you plan to park can help push the price down.
Even simply adding your driving licence number can save you some cash.
Abigayle recalled: “It saved me £20 and it’s better to be £20 in your pocket than in someone else’s.”
Likewise, paying the full cost as a lump sum rather than in monthly installments could save you hundreds in interest payments.
Firms can charge interest on monthly payments as they have effectively loaned you the full policy before you have paid for it, and this can bump your annual bill up.
However, Abigayle did recognise that paying all at once is “not possible” for everyone.
Finally, it’s always worth checking if anyone in your household has a policy that provides a multi-car discount.
Not all providers do this, but it can present opportunities for big savings if it is on offer.
She also reminded viewers to always be honest and not to withhold information on their application, as doing so could lead to their insurance being cancelled.
Social media commenters were left amazed by the useful tips.
One wrote: “Great tip about driving licence.”
Another added: “Wish I saw this a week ago. [I] paid £550 last year, £750 this year.”
It comes after an expert mechanic revealed three things you need to do to make your car last twice as long.
Meanwhile, Keith Richards’ old Ferrari went on sale for £390,000 – but would you start it up?
