Idris Elba's Hijack Becomes Second Apple TV+ Series to Make … – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Hijack, the original Apple TV+ miniseries, has become only the second series on the platform to join the streaming top 10 charts.

Starring Idris Elba as Sam Nelson, Hijack entered into the top 10 of the streaming chart, during the week of July 31-August 6. With this accomplishment, the show follows in the footsteps of the popular sports series Ted Lasso, which had long been the only series on Apple TV+ to the milestone.

According to Nielsen, Hijack garnered nearly 357 million minutes of viewing time during the week when its finale premiered, occupying the eighth spot among all the original web series. Besides Hijack and Ted Lasso, only a few Apple TV+ movies have previously made it into the film-specific top 10. The continued success of Apple TV+ shows the platform’s growing potential in the streaming landscape over the last four years.

In the overall rankings, Suits, the legal drama television series, continued its reign, maintaining the top position for the sixth consecutive week, with an enormous 3.24 billion minutes of watch time. Over the seven weeks since its streaming debut, the show has managed to gather a combined viewing of over 23.54 billion minutes. Another legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer, secured the top spot among original streaming series. Additionally, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returned to the rankings with 362 million minutes, thanks to its musical episode, while Peacock’s Twisted Metal made its debut at No. 10 among original series with 326 million minutes.

In the movie category, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 clocked 1.63 billion minutes on Disney+, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie gathered 717 million minutes on Peacock. It should be noted that Nielsen’s streaming ratings exclusively cover viewing on television sets and do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. These ratings are limited to U.S. audiences and do not encompass viewership from other countries.

Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, Hijack has officially ended its run as a seven-part miniseries. The series has received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Joining Elba in the cast are Neil Maskell, Eve Myles, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Archie Panjabi, Ben Miles, and Kate Phillips.

Hijack Season 1 is streaming on Apple TV+.
