IBM plans to buy an Indonesian enterprise resource planning and cloud consulting services firm – it’s ninth acquisition this year – to boost capabilities in IBM Consulting.

Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM will use Equine Global “to help clients in Indonesia modernize their core businesses while advancing the company’s hybrid cloud and AI strategy in the region,” according to a statement Tuesday.

This is IBM’s first Indonesia-headquartered acquisition. IBM’s statement did not disclose financial terms, but the vendor said it plans to close the deal in the fourth quarter of 2023.

CRN has reached out to IBM for comment.

IBM Consulting is No. 7 on CRN’s 2023 Solution Provider 500. IBM as a whole has 55,000 channel partners worldwide, 12,000 of them in North America, according to CRN’s 2023 Channel Chiefs.

The announcement comes about a week after IBM announced it acquired Czech data lineage platform Manta Software to boost capabilities in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) offerings Watsonx.ai, Watsonx.data and Watsonx.governance.

Equine, founded in 2009, is made of multiple operating companies that work on ERP implementation, application development, data management and analytics, according to IBM’s statement.

Other acquisitions this year by IBM include Apptio for $4.6 billion, Polar Security for about $60 million and StepZen for an undisclosed amount.
