A LUCKY dad was sitting on a £22million fortune for a week and didn’t know it.
When he finally checked the ticket in his front pocket, he discovered he’d hit the Powerball jackpot and celebrated with fish and chips.
The lucky man said: “I was in complete disbelief and shock when the retailer explained I had the winning ticket.
“We’re a tight family and will share the win together, making sure our kids and grandkids are looked after. This has changed our lives.”
The owner of the news shop where the father purchased his ticket is ecstatic about selling the winning ticket.
Owner Milan Vuletich told local news: “We were pretty excited, me and my daughter were high-fiving and fist-bumping, yeah it was pretty cool.”
The news shop has sold prizes worth thousands of pounds in past years, but never something as big as the £22million jackpot, Vuletich said.
The newly minted millionaire father said he celebrated with fish and chips, and his family plans to use the money to travel.
One man who had refused to buy lottery tickets his entire life found himself with a small jackpot after deciding to play.
Virginia native Danny Johnson was coaxed into buying his first Powerball ticket by a friend – convincing him to drop his “it’s a waste of time” mantra.
According to Newsflash, he told Virginia Lottery officials: “I looked at the winning numbers and said, ‘Hey I’ve got a few of those!'”
“I didn’t know how much I’d won because I never play.”
Mr Johnson’s lucky guess was quite the feat, overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are one in 25.
Last year, Joe and Jess Thwaite became the biggest ever lottery winners in the UK after a whopping win.
The couple took home £184million in May 2022, and celebrated their win by buying a £16.95 plate of steak and chips.
They did, however, leave a hefty tip after their winning, and are sure to enjoy plenty of more expensive meals.
