‘I quit working 100-hour weeks and now travel the world for free – I saved £6k last month'

A woman quit her job working up to 100 hours per work and now spends her time travelling the world for free.

Kirstina Corniel, 34, is a professional house sitter who stays in luxury homes in America and Europe.

The content creator made the decision to quit her job in HR after realising she was “unfulfilled”.

Before she left the role, she was working anywhere between 80 to 100 hours a week.

In one of her most recent trips, Ms Corniel was able to save £6,000 on a month-long vacation to Montreux, Switzerland.

During her stay, she enjoyed bubble baths, luxury food and was able to use the house owner’s cars.

In comparison, if she had not become a content creator, Mr Corniel would likely have been forking over £200 per night at a hotel.

Quitting in 2016, her first trip was to Thailand and quickly fell in love with the idea of travelling the world.

While out there, Ms Corniel found remote work as an online teacher but ended up documenting her time abroad as a content creator.

To find ways of cutting her expenses, she discovered house-sitting websites in 2019 where members pay a small membership fee but can then browse homes to stay in for free.

Ms Corniel explained: “I thought I’ve got to try this. If it’s legit it’s a game changer. All you are doing is feeding their cats.”

Other places she has vacationed include visiting vineyards in California and staying in a penthouse in New York City.

The content creator explained: “I get to stay in beautiful places and save. It’s a huge hack for me. Not only do you get to stay in quality homes but you can have more time to explore.

“Sometimes I let the house sit site dictate where I’m going next. “I stayed in a penthouse in Chelsea, New York.

“Being able to live like a local in Switzerland, one of the most expensive countries in the world for free was definitely a highlight.”

One of the reasons Ms Corniel left her job was due to a change in how she personally “defined success”.

She added: “I started to think about how I wanted to live my life day to day.

“I thought about what I wanted more of. I wanted more sunlight, more exercise, more time with family, more nature, more learning, more excitement, more growth, more fulfilment, more freedom.”

As of today, the creator travels the globe with her husband, Martin Svec, 34, who is a videographer.

The couple has visited most counties in Europe, as well as the majority of states in America.
