There’s nothing more frustrating than going on vacation and losing your 258 day Snapchat streak because you forgot to send a picture.

A Snapchat streak, also known as a Snapstreak, is a feature that tracks the consecutive days of exchanging photos or videos between two users on the app.

When you and a friend send snaps back and forth for consecutive days, a flame emoji appears next to their name, along with the number of days the streak has been active.

Thankfully, Snapchat lets you get back your streak in a few simple steps.

To restore your streak on Snapchat:

  1. Make sure your Snapchat app is updated to the latest version
  2. Go to your Chat feed in the Snapchat app
  3. If a Streak has ended recently, you’ll see a camera button next to that friend’s name on your Chat feed
  4. Click this button to open the Reply camera where you’ll start the Restore process.
  5. Take a Snap and send it to your friend.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish restoring your Streak

If you recently lost a Snapstreak of 7 days or longer, you can follow these steps to restore it.

However, you only get to restore one streak for free so you’ll have to be careful about using it. After that, you’ll have to pay to restore a streak.

Snapstreaks have become a fun way for users to maintain daily communication. The competitive element of streaks nudge people to maintain long streaks with their friends.

Losing a streak can be disappointing for those who have impressive streak lengths.

To keep a streak alive, both users need to send each other at least one snap within a 24-hour window. If you forget to send a snap within this timeframe, the streak will end and you’ll lose the flame emoji.
