I drove the most popular EV in the UK… here’s what I hated the most about the Tesla Model Y… – The Sun

A DRIVER who took the most popular electric vehicle in the UK for a spin has explained what he hates most about it.

A motorist has taken to TikTok to complain about the Tesla Model Y, the bestselling EV put out by billionaire Elon Musk‘s company.

The Tiktoker named Tom, posting on his channel The Fast Charge, spoke out about the EV in a 49-second clip which has gone viral.

He opened by saying: “Here’s some things I like and dislike about the Tesla Model Y, one of the most popular EVs in the UK at the moment.

First among his complaints were the car’s door handles, which he told viewers “don’t feel very natural”.

But there was another aspect which appeared to exasperate him most.

He said: “I deeply dislike how everything is on one screen, including the speedo – it can really try your patience.”

But it was not all bad, in the video which showed him giving a brief tour of the Tesla before taking it for a drive.

He praised “the amount of space you get”, adding: “This is a family car and there’s room for shopping, your sports equipment and at least two woofers.”

He also liked “the visibility all around the car”, including its “panoramic roof stretching the length of the vehicle” – as well as its “gimmicks”.

He demonstrated one which projects footage of a burning fireplace on to the screen, while the car emits heat from its vents.

He added: “If you think they’re daft, you just need to lighten up a bit.”

And he went on: “I like the fact that with a Tesla you can access the Supercharger network.”

The company, whose chief executive Musk also owns X/Twitter, has more than 45,000 Superchargers across the world.

These include more than 1,100 in the UK at 115 different locations.

The 2023 Tesla Model Y typically sells for between £44,990 and £59,990.

It has been described as a “bigger, more spacious” version of Tesla’s Model 3 hatchback which was previously the firm’s biggest-selling UK car.

Another TikTokker has revealed how she transformed her own Tesla Model Y into a campervan.

But someone else used the video site to explain how he bought an expensive Tesla two years ago before describing why he hates it.

The new criticisms from Tom come a week after London mayor Sadiq Khan extended across the entire capital the much-criticised ultra-low emission zone.

From last Tuesday onwards all 32 of the capital’s boroughs are covered by the £12.50 charges imposed on people driving cars deemed too environmentally-unfriendly.

A woman who bought an EV so she could comply with ULEZ roles told last week how it had slashed the value of the car in half.

Other complaints about EVs include how difficult it can be to find charging points.

The majority of UK local authority areas have no roadside chargers, according to a recent report by car-makers Vauxhall.

Large parts of CumbriaSomerset and Yorkshire were revealed to be among the worst blackspots for EV charging.

Motorists in those regions are forced instead to depend on home charging points, often costly to install and run.

EV owners were warned last week how their brakes and steering could get hacked.

Meanwhile, a mechanic with 55 years’ experience explained three reasons why EV prices are plummeting.

Another car expert told why he believes EVs “aren’t the future”, having trying out the latest Porsche version.

More car experts have offered tips on the five most common complaints from EV owners as well as how to remedy them.
