The HOT ROD Pod continues in its second week of epic conversations with fascinating people in the automotive industry. This week, we sit down with drag racer Jeff Lutz. You’ve seen him on Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings on TV, but you may not know that he was a bricklayer for many years prior to building cars professionally.
Jeff Lutz in HOT ROD
Jeff ran his first HOT ROD Drag Week in 2008, and he credits coverage in the magazine for putting him on the map as a top-quality chassis builder. At signings for No Prep Kings, people still bring him copies of HOT ROD to sign. Since then, he has appeared in HOT ROD and Car Craft several times. He went from being a guest chassis-builder on Street Outlaws to one of the regular stars in the later seasons. He then became one of the headliners in the Street Outlaws spinoff, No Prep Kings. Through it all, Jeff has retained that same friendly, approachable demeanor that we knew from the beginning.
On the HOT ROD Pod
We caught up with Jeff at the 2023 SEMA show, and we discussed everything from his decision to quit the construction business and begin working on cars full-time to the evolution of Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings. No topic was off-limits. Jeff talks about having his NHRA license temporarily revoked, crashing race cars, and building crazy cars with Farmtruck and AZN. You don’t want to miss this one!
