A HIGH street giant with 1,000 branches is set to shut another store following a string of closures – but it’s not all bad news.

The Argos store in Holland Market, Spalding, Lincs, will be closing, it has been confirmed.

However the outlet will be re-opening a few doors down to become a concession with a Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket giant has been closing standalone Argos stores to create concessions within its Sainsbury’s sites since buying the company in 2016.

The closure of the standalone Argos site will create another empty shop within Holland Market following the closure of Wilko’s last year.

Last year the retailer announced plans to close 100 stores within 12 months.

An Argos spokesman said: “To make shopping more convenient for customers and to enable us to invest where it matters most, we are relocating many of our standalone Argos stores to Sainsbury’s –
this includes our Spalding Argos store.

“Later this year, a brand-new Argos will open inside Sainsbury’s Spalding, enabling customers to purchase thousands of technology, home and toy products from Argos while picking up their groceries.”

“We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in any we can, including offering colleagues the opportunity to redeploy to other roles within Sainsbury’s and Argos.”

By March 2024, Sainsbury’s expects to have 160 standalone stores and between 430 and 460 Argos counters inside Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
