Shia LaBeouf is set to debut on stage in a new play by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet. The play, titled “Henry Johnson,” will be directed by Marja-Lewis Ryan, known for her work on “The L Word: Generation Q.”

The venue for the premiere will be The Electric Lodge in Venice, California. The cast includes David Paymer, who has been nominated for an Academy Award, along with Dominic Hoffman, a frequent collaborator of Mamet and Evan Jongkeit from Broadway, taking on the role of Henry Johnson.

“I’m grateful to work with David Mamet,” said LaBeouf. “His talent is unmatched, and it’s an honor to collaborate with one of the greatest living playwrights. ‘Henry Johnson’ is a unique story that has inspired and challenged me as an actor. Marja’s guidance and Evan’s mentorship have been invaluable in my growth as a performer. This experience has deepened my respect for the power of storytelling. I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn and create with them.”

The play revolves around a man whose life is disrupted by an act of kindness. The premiere is scheduled for September 1, 2023.

Mamet commented, “According to Constantin Stanislavski, directors who alter the text miss its essence. Many directors merely teach English and rely on stage managers. May God bless Ms. Ryan.” The play will run from September 1 to 24.
