Graphic India looks to scale up gaming business with new launches on Roblox

CA Media-funded character entertainment company Graphic India is expanding its presence in gaming with the launch of its first game on Roblox, the global online gaming platform that has 66 million daily active users.

“We focus on creating great characters and stories that transcend mediums and platforms across films, comics, animation, games and more,” Graphic India founder Sharad Devarajan told ET. “The Roblox platform is the perfect fit for us because it creates an amazing opportunity for all storytellers and content creators.”

The company will be launching a total of five games on Roblox with plans to scale up the offerings beyond that.

“In addition to this first game, ‘Superpower Simulator: Chakra’ releasing May 4, we have two more in production for this year and two more in development for next year,” Devarajan said.

The company’s monetisation strategy focuses on maximum adoption of its games by keeping them free and partnering with global brands to help them connect with those audiences.

The company is targeting a wide range of audiences and age groups for its games.

“While ‘Superpower Simulator: Chakra’ will skew a bit towards a younger 6-to-12-year demographic, the next game we will be announcing later this year will be a big mythic game targeting an older audience of 14 to 25,” he said. He further stated that Graphic India will be leveraging the Roblox platform to launch interactive experiences for Indian and global consumers. It aims to become the first big Roblox developer from India.

“We are betting that Roblox will play a powerful part in exploring the future of immersive storytelling, especially for India’s massive 650 million digitally-connected youth market,” Devarajan added.

The Graphic India founder said the company’s ambition is to help lead a new Roblox revolution in India by pulling in millions of first-time users from the country and giving them a unique experience around high-quality unique Indian characters, stories and themes.

He believes that this is the opportune time to bring India’s own unique world view and mythic storytelling to the world. “With 66 million global daily active users and a thriving ecosystem of developers to create and launch relatively fast and cost-effective experiences, Roblox becomes a perfect conduit to take our IP to a massive global audience,” he said.

The character entertainment company, which focuses on creating superheroes, comics and stories that are uniquely Indian through mobile and digital platforms, is currently producing 200 episodes of animation content across TV and digital platforms.

It has forged partnerships with streaming platforms like Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video, besides children’s TV channels like Disney India and Cartoon Network.

It raised $1.1 million in a pre-seed funding round in early 2022 with participation from co-founders of Twitch, Rotten Tomatoes, Crunchyroll, Kabam, 9GAG and Junglee Games.
