Google’s new AI tool 'Genesis': All you may want to know

FAQsThe AI battle is on with several big firms competing against one another. As OpenAI launched ChatGPT, Google in response came up with Bard. However, it seems Google has bigger plans now. It is now working on a new AI tool, dubbed Genesis which can help in generating news content, first reported by The New York Times.

Furthermore, a PCMag report has cited Google as saying that it is in the earliest stages of exploring ideas, which could potentially help journalists in their work.

Notably, reports add that Google has pitched Genesis to some of the leading media outlets in the US like The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. The rumors surrounding Genesis say that it will be able to produce content by taking key details in note of the current events.

Google acknowledges that AI-enabled tools are the need of the hour for journalists, as the company also provides AI tools for consumers to enhance work and productivity as seen in Gmail and Google Docs. It believes that AI tools for journalism are “not intended to, and cannot, replace the essential role journalists have in reporting, creating, and fact-checking their articles.”

While the bigger question – “What will be the future of AI Journalism?” – remains unanswered and only time will tell that. Additionally, media organizations have been cautious in adopting generative AI for news-gathering due to concerns about accuracy, plagiarism and copyright. However, the Associated Press recently partnered with OpenAI, allowing the use of their archives from 1985 to train AI.
